Vengaya sambar is very different taste and spicy. This is the traditional south indian dish. It is the best breakfast recipe and it is very easy to prepared with simple ingredients.

Vengaya Sambar

  • 1.00 cup Toor Dal
  • 1.00 cup Small Onions
  • 1.00 nos Tomato
  • 4.00 nos Garlic Pods
  • 2.00 nos Curry Leaves
  • 0.50 tbsp Cumin Seeds
  • 0.25 tbsp Mustard Seeds
  • 5.00 nos Crushed Garlic
  • 2.00 nos Dried Red Chilly
  • 1.25 tbsp Hing
  • 2.00 tbsp Sambar Powder
  • 1.00 tbsp Tamarind Extract
  • 1.00 tbsp Salt
  • 2.00 tbsp Oil
  • 0.25 tbsp Turmeric Powder
  • 0.25 Glass Water
  • 1.00 nos Coriander Leaves

Vengaya Sambar

  • Rinse a cup of Toor Dal (Red Gram), and put it in a pressure cooker then add enough water and a pinch of turmeric powder and close the lid then brings to boil for four to five whistles.

  • Peel off one cup of small onions and chop one medium size tomatoes and crush some garlic pods,and bring some curry leaves in it.

  • Now the toor dal is well cooked, when the pressure completely goes out then open the lid and drain the stock water and smash the gram well using wooden ladle.

  • Heat a cooking pan add some oil and add some cumin seeds, mustard seeds and crushed garlic with them and also add two dried chilly and some curry leaves with them and stir them for few seconds.

  • Then add 1/4 tbsp of hing over them and saute well for few seconds, do not increases the flame while adding hing, because it turns to black.

  • Then add one cup of small onions with them and stir it for few seconds, till it gets transparent, do not saute till the brown color appears.

  • Then add one medium sized fine chopped tomato with them and saute well till it smashes well, you can also add a pinch of salt for fast smash.

  • When the tomatoes are gets smashed, now add two to three tbsp of sambar powder and enough salt for this recipe, and stir them well in low fire.

  • Then add the smashed toor dal with them and stir well for few seconds, and also add the grams boiled stock water with them and add some more water if needed.

  • When the water are added and bring them to boil for few minutes by closing the lid, till the sambar comes to little tender now add the tamarind extract with the and again bring to boil till the raw smell goes out.

  • Finally add some coriander leaves over them and remove from the flame, then serve hot with hot plain or steamed rice.
