This is an unique Bengali sweet dish where the sweet potato are boiled and mashed and then mixed with maida and ghee to form round shaped gulab jamuns which are then deep fried and the dish is sweet because these sweet potato vadas are dipped in sugar syrup for hours to bring the sweet and softness.

Ingredients of Sweet potato gulab jamun

3.00 no Sweet Potato
0.25 cup Maida
4.00 cup Sugar
0.25 tbsp Cardamom Powder
6.00 tbsp Ghee

Sweet potato gulab jamun

Take 3 red potatoes or sweet potatoes as shown in the image. They have to be washed, peeled and boiled to make the gulab jamun.

Once the potato is cooled, add the cardamom powder and maida and mash very well with hand so that a fine paste is formed.

Make small round shaped balls from the paste in the shape of a gulab jamun and set it aside in a plate as shown in the image

Heat the ghee in a tawa and add the balls to it and fry them in all sides for about 4-5 minutes on simmer

Continue frying by turning in different directions so that all sides are fried and turn equally golden brown in color

Drain off the excess ghee from the gulab jamun and set it aside in a bowl to cool before putting in the sugar syrup.

Take 4 cups of sugar and 8 cups of water and bring it to boil. Boil till the water reaches to almost 3 cups and the syrup formed is sticky in nature. Set it aside in a bowl for cooling.
