STEP : 1
Wash the Hilsa fish very well under running water so that it is clean and can be marinated and then fried.
STEP : 2
Marinate the Hilsa fish pieces with salt and turmeric for about 10-15 minutes before they are shallow fried in the oil.
STEP : 3
Heat oil in a frying pan and add the marinated fish pieces. Shallow fry it both sides till the fish is fried and yet remains soft.

Set aside the fried fishes separately in a plate after frying so that they do not get detached and the fish can be put in the gravy.

Make a paste from the mustard seeds and set the green chili aside. These are the main ingredients for making the gravy.

Heat oil in a kadai and add the Kalonjee seeds . Add the mustard paste, green chili, salt and turmeric and mix very well. Add some water so that the masala does not stick in the kadai.
STEP : 7
Add the fried fish to the gravy, mix it thoroughly and add 2 cups of water and let the gravy thicken before the final dish can be served.
