Ingredients of Spinach dal curry

STEP : 1
Wash and clean the spinach. Chop the onions and tomatoes. Keep all the other ingredients ready.

First, take dal in a pressure cooker. Add required water, turmeric powder and salt. Pressure cook for a few minutes or till dal is cooked.

Heat oil in a clay pan. Once, oil becomes hot, add the mustard seeds. Allow it to pop for a few seconds.

Next step is to add cumin seeds, fennel seeds and chopped green chillies. Add dried red chillies and sauté.

Now, add the crushed garlic cloves and sauté. Adding garlic cloves gives a nice flavour to the dal.

Next, add half the chopped onions. Sauté well till the onions becomes transparent. It should not be browned.

Now, add the remaining chopped onions and also the chopped tomatoes. Sauté well for a few minutes.

Mix all the ingredients well. Keep on stirring for a few minutes. Allow it to cook for sometime.

Add the washed, cleaned and drained spinach leaves. Add about a bunch of leaves as it will shrink once cooked.

Add required salt. Mix it well. It gives a good flavour as all the ingredients blend together.

Now, its time to add the dal. Add the cooked tuvar dal which is pressure cooked. Add little water.

Mix well and close the lid. Allow it to cook for just 5 minites. Do not overcook it. Serve hot once it is done.
