Shahi tukda is a famous Mughalai dessert recipe. It is very rich, creamy and has a very sweet taste. This is a royal recipe because condensed milk, ghee, almonds and saffron strands are the key ingredients of the recipe.You can serve this recipe as your kids' meal too.

When you find a few pieces of bread slices in your refrigerator and have no idea on what to make, then go for this recipe as it consumes very less time and is a best replacement for normal sweet recipes.

Alternatives for shahi tukda ingredients:

When we look for a good recipe and at last find a few that satisfies our eyes and soul and get ready to start and suddenly knowing that we are running out of those ingredients will really be a big stress. 

So I just wanna give you some alternatives for the ingredients I have chosen to make this recipe. I prefer using condensed milk or milkmaid for making this recipe as it gives the real richness and creamy texture.

Though if you have no condensed milk at home, then you can boil some full fat milk along with some sugar until the milk thickens and then use it. 

You can also make milkmaid easily at home and can refrigerate it for weeks. 

I recommend you to use milk bread and desi ghee for making this recipe. But no worries, you can also use brown bread and butter to make it taste just like the same. 

Serving options:

Shahi tukda tastes the best when you serve it after chilling it. To the condensed milk you can add any flavours like vanilla, rose, etc., of your choice, though cardamom is the best for this recipe. 

When you crave for some ice cream, shahi tukda is a best option or you can serve it with a scoop of vanilla or chocolate ice cream. 

To make it more healthier, chop some dry fruits and nuts and top it nicely. You can also add come sliced bananas over the bread pieces or else you can stuff it inside the bread pieces.

Make your own trials and errors while serving and finally you will be a master in cooking. 

Storing shahi tukda:

While storing, make sure not to exceed more than a day as the freshness is the secret of perfectly delicious shahi tukda. 

And trust me it should be slightly crispy while serving. Use a good amount of desi ghee for frying the bread and eat it as soon as possible after making or after freezing it for a few minutes.

Heat the ghee in a tawa and then fry the nuts well in it as shown in the image till they turn brownish in color

Cut the bread into half slices along the diagonal section and then fry them well as shown in the picture so that they become crispy

Set aside the fried nuts and the fried bread in a plate to be soaked in the kheer base before the shahi tukda is ready to be served

Heat the condensed milk in a tawa with little water and then add some elaichi powder to it and boil well till it becomes thicker

Add the condensed milk to the breads and let it soak for some time and the breads become sweet and juicy . Then it is ready to be served with nuts and saffron toppings.
