Ingredients

  • 0.75 tbsp Bengal Gram
  • 1.00 nos Onion
  • 2.00 nos Tomato
  • 8.00 nos Garlic Pods
  • 1.00 tbsp Tamarind
  • 0.5 tbsp Turmeric Powder
  • 1.00 tbsp Red Chilly Powder
  • 2.00 nos Green Chilly
  • 2.00 nos Dried Red Chilly
  • 4.00 nos Curry Leaves
  • 0.5 tbsp Coriander Leaves
  • 2.00 tbsp Oil
  • 0.25 tbsp Mustard Seeds
  • 0.25 tbsp Cumin Seeds
  • 0.25 tbsp Hing
  • 0.5 tbsp Ginger Slices
  • 1.00 tbsp Sambar Powder

Instructions

  • Rinse and soak 3/4 cup of Bengal gram for ten minutes and drained out the water.

  • Roughly chop one onion and two ripen tomatoes and fine chop some ginger and green chilies,Peel off some garlic pods.

  • Take a pressure cooker add the well rinsed Bengal gram,chopped tomatoes,green chilies and ginger slices and add some onions too,reserve some onion slices for tempering.

  • Then add all the powder ingredients such as red chilly powder,sambar powder,a pinch of hing and add some turmeric powder with them.

  • Add enough water and freshly extracted tamarind extract with them,add enough salt for them,cover the lid and brings to pressure cook for four or five whistles.

  • Remove the lid when the pressure releases itself,and now transfer the pressure cooked Gram mixture to a whisking mud pot.

  • Whisk well the pressure cooked ingredients using a wooden ladle till it comes to soft and mushy,Transfer the whisked dal to a bowl.

  • Heat a tadka pan add some oil then add some mustard seeds and cumin seeds and add some reserved onions and fry for a second.

  • Then add some dried red chilies and some curry leaves with them and stir for a few seconds.

  • Adjust the salt for the dal mixture then pour the tempered ingredients over the prepared Dal mixture.

  • Garnish some coriander leaves and serve hot with hot steamed or plain rice.and also better to serve with Idly Or Dosa Recipes.
