This khichdi is made of roasted moong dal and rice. It is also known as bhoger khichdi. Paanch phoron (Bengali five species) and ghee give an authentic favor to this dish. Serve khichdi with beguni or eggplant fitters.
A Classic Bengali Style Tasty Moong Dal Khichdi Bengali Recipe
Moong dal khichdi bengali is very delicious and spicy. This is a traditional Bengali style recipe. It is very easily cooked at home. It can make by during festivals and occasions.
Ingredients
Moong Dal Khichdi Bengali
- 1.00 cup Moong dal
- 1.00 cup rice
- 0.25 tbsp turmeric powder
- 0.25 tbsp sugar
- 0.25 tbsp salt
- 2.00 nos bay leaves
- 2.00 nos green chili
- 1.00 nos whole red chili
- 0.50 tbsp paanch phoron
- 0.25 tbsp grated
- 1.00 tbsp ghee
- 2.00 tbsp oil
Instructions
Moong Dal Khichdi Bengali
- Take equal quantity of moong dal and rice, 1 teaspoon of paanch phoron, two bay leaves, one whole red chili, two green chili, grated ginger.
- Heat a non-stick pan and dry roast the moong dal. Roast it on a low flame and stir it continuously until the colour of moong dal becomes little pink in colour.
- Now combine the roasted moong dal and rice and again roast it on a low flame. Roast it at least for 5 8 minutes. And transfer it to a bowl and keep it separately.
- Heat oil in a non-stick pan, add paanch phoron, bay leaves, whole red chili and saute it for a minutes on a low flame. Dont cook it for long period of time otherwise it will get burn.
- Now add the roasted rice and moong dal, a teaspoon of turmeric powder, a teaspoon of salt and half teaspoon of sugar. Mix it well.
- After that add 4 cups of water, grated ginger and green chili. The water quantity must be double then rice and dal quantity. Transfer it to a pressure cooker and cook it for 1 whistle.
- Turn off the flame after 10 minutes open the lid of pressure cooker and check the khichdi is completely cooked or not. Add ghee and mix well.
- Serve it on a serving plate and add more ghee will serving. Serve this delicious khichdi with a crispy fried brinjal pakoda. This is pour authentic khichdi having no onion and garlic.
