Kalakand is a Indian sweet recipe which is most popular in north India.
The key ingredient of the recipe is paneer which is cottage cheese. So yes, no doubt it is a royal sweet which can be served along with any kind of thaali or can be prepared during any special occasions.
If you are a sweet craving person, this recipe is the best for you, but be cautious of calories in kalakand.
Traditional Kalakand Recipe
The traditional kalakand preparation is a very long process which includes making paneer at home from scratch.
Though it is an easy recipe even for beginners. While making paneer, you have lemon juice in milk just to curdle the milk.
After the curdling and straining the paneer, make sure to wash the paneer nicely with enough water to remove the odd smell of lemon in your kalakand.
For Quicker Version
To make kalakand recipes in an easy and simple way, you can obviously use store bought paneer. Simply crumble and paneer and proceed in the same way.
Instead of sugar, you can use condensed milk or milk maid which will make your process easier.
Garnishing and Serving Options
You can use any nuts of your choice to garnish your kalakand sweet.
Chop some almonds and pistachios, drizzle it all over the sweet. It will definitely tempt and make us eat more.
This is a healthy sweet as it contains paneer, but it contains a lot of sugar too. To make it more healthy, reduce the amount of sugar and make it mild.
Cardamom powder is must as it has a nice aroma which gives the sweet a great finish. Adding ghee is also equally important as nothing can beat the aroma of desi ghee.
Use full fat milk while making paneer, so that you will get a good amount of paneer.
Storing Kalakand
As it contains a lot of milk products, you have to store it in the refrigerator. Though you have to consume it within a week.
But trust me, you need not have to worry about storing, as everyone at your home will finish the sweet on the same day which is usually happens at my home whenever I make it.
