Dal dhokli is a famous food of Maharashtra, Gujarat and is popular all around the northern parts of India.

It is a comfort food during a rainy day. Indeed, serving this hot dal dhokli is all enough for a good day and feels full for a very long time.

What is dal dhokli?

It is so simple to answer. It is a complete meal by which wheat dough with some flavours is cooked in dal.

Dal dhokli is a one pot meal and you can prepare it in very less time.

It is a flavourful recipe bound with many flavourful ingredients in it.

This is a protein rich food as it contains lots of dal in it. And so you can serve this recipe for lunch as it is very very healthy and filling.

You can make this recipe even when you have left over dal. And the fact is the traditional way of making this recipe is from leftover dal only. One serving of dal dhokli calories is around 366 calories combined with protein, carbohydrates and fat. Follow my step by step dal dhokli recipe for making it super delicious.

How to make dal dhokli at home?

The first thing is let's take the dal dhokli ingredients which are flour and dal. And the next thing is kneading the dough for dhokli.

Today I am using maida or all purpose flour for making the dough. You can also use atta or whole wheat flour for making the dough to make it more healthier.

Am adding red chilli powder, turmeric, hing and salt along with some oil and ghee.

You can add any other flavours like ajwain and cumin if you like.

You have to knead a really soft dough to make the perfect dhokli.

Then you have to roll the dough with medium thickness as you usually roll dough for chapati.

Now you have to cut the dough into any shape you like.

To make it more interesting for kids you can use small cookie cutters to make different shapes like star, moon and more.

Today I am making simple square and diamond shapes. And so yes we must talk about the consistency of the dal you prepare for the dal dhokli.

It should be really watery as the dough will absorb the dal and make it really thick.

What to serve with dal dhokli?

You can serve dal dhokli without any side dish as it itself a complete meal.

Is dal dhokli healthy?

Yes dal dhokli is completely healthy, so you can serve it both for kids and adults.

So when it comes to storing the dal dhokli in the refrigerator, obviously I won’t recommend it. Because it has to be eaten fresh, storing it will make the dough absorb too much dal and the mixture will become a single solid.
