Batata vada is a famous food recipe of maharashtra. Batata is a portugal word which means potato. So batata vada means potato fritters. Vada is a common word which means fritters and there are many variations of fritters in India.
Batata vada calories is a bit high as it contains lots of potato in it. But it is not a crime to eat it occasionally.
In many places of India batata vada is a fast selling street food snack recipe. And yes it is very simple to make it at home. And the batata vada ingredients are also easily available at home so you don’t want to rush to the supermarket to prepare this tasty vada.
How to make perfect vada pav at home?
The very first step is boiling the potatoes. Boil the potatoes with enough water either in a pressure cooker or pan. You have to cook the potato really nice so that you can mash it easily.
Here one pro tip is instead of mashing the potato, use a grater to make it lump free and super soft.
I am using some peanuts for crunchy taste. You have to remove the skin of the peanuts before adding it into the vada mixture. If you don’t like peanuts you can skip the step but adding peanuts will make the vada really tasty.
I am sauteing onion, green chilli and all in regular sunflower oil, you can use any oil of your choice. I am also using another pan to boil the masala ingredients. But it is not compulsory to do that.
You can simply add the masala mixtures directly into the onion mixture and saute it nicely till the raw smell goes off. Once you prepare the potato onion stuffing you have to dip it in the besan mixture and have to fry it in hot oil.
The consistency of the besan mixture really matters while making batata vada. It should neither be too thick nor be too runny. Make it like dosa batter consistency.
Batata vada cooking options
Today I am deep frying the batata vada in hot oil. It is the traditional way of cooking batata vada. If you are diet conscious and still want to have this vada, you can shallow fry it with less oil or you can use an appe pan for making this vada.
You can also bake the vada in a preheated oven for about 15 to 20 minutes. For the baking process, you don’t really have to add any oil, so it is really a healthy option.
Serving the batata vada
Batata vada tastes so good along with some green chutney and sweet chutney. You can serve it as batata vada pav by stuffing the vada in between pav. If you have leftover batata vada you can make it as batata vada sambar.

i created final served dish , spicy & tasty potato vada with green chutney , tomato sauce & chapati ,first step is in separate cooker add 3 cup water & potatoes with salt boil it for came 3 whistle after completely boiled potatoes filter it out of hot water.

Cut chopped onion & green chilly finely, & mashed potato, & tamp peanuts very nicely ,its very tasty & yummy dish.

Turn on the heat put it kadai then add 2 spoon oil then add tamped peanuts , curry leaf , & mustard seed, mix it well & cook it 2 to 3 mins.

After fried peanuts, curry leaf & mustard seed den now add chopped onion & green chilly & stir it well & cook it 10 mins.

Next step is get a bowl & take 1 spoon salt. 1 spoon red chilly powder, 1 spoon chat masala, 1 spoon garam masala, & 1 spoon sugar.then add water little bit & mix it well.

Turn on heat & put it tadka pan add 1 spoon oil & add prepared liquid & boil it 2 sec atleast,

Next step boiled tadka liquid mix in fried onion mix it well & cook it 5 mins, its a very healthy & good choice for snack

After completely fried onion & tadka then add now mashed potatoes,& mix it well & cook it for 15 mins, atleast.

Next step is prepared small balls of prepared potato masala very nicely, potato vada is a very famous dish in mumbai & pune,
For Vada Preparation

Take a bowl then get 1 cup chickpeas flour & add also salt. & red chilly powder mix it well & add little little water & stir it well fastly one side..frequently stir this liquid ,which means vada will make very crispy & softy with stired.

Next step is dipping prepared vada in chickpeas liquid ,very nicely, potato vada is very yummy & healthy snack,everyone likes this tasty snack very delight,
